Activist Judges-Bad; Activist Presidents-Not so much.
In the endless stream of hypocrisy that we have to endure with this pretend-president we now get word that in an interview with Fox News anchor Brit Hume, Bush declared that Tom Delay is innocent. The same crowd that ties itself in knots trying to make the case that the Supreme Court and the Federal Bench are inappropriately imposing their will on the prerogatives of the Legislative Branch ( a claim that exposes their gross misunderstanding of the Constitution) is now willing to accept this idiot president opining on the guilt or innocence of an indicted defendent in a criminal case! His spokesman Scott McCllen claims it is his "prerogative to exercise" so apparently the Executive can willy-nilly insert itself into the affairs of the judiciary onthe basis of what?...Fiat? How can he make these kinds of irresponsible claims without hearing the facts in the case presented in open court? Perhaps he should have honored his jury duty subpoena if he is so eager to pass judgement on active cases.
What is of course most galling is that when a real journalist, Jim Lehrer of PBS, later in the week asked him to reveal the source of the Plame leak (after Bob Novak indicated that he was sure the President knew the identity of the leaker) he resorted to his chatty-kathy-pull-the-string response that, "he does not comment on ongoing cases." Hey ya can't have it both ways...either ya do or ya don't! Most real presidents would have the good sense to stay out of the DeLay imbrogglio knowing that the reach of this scandal is going to be very damaging to the entire corrupt House Republican Leadership. The Law is coming after these fetid corrupt money-launderers and Bush will rue the day he jumped to the defense of the biggest pig of them all, Delay, in short order.
